Cali's birthday was the day after we arrived on the 12th. Although we never have big, crazy birthday celebrations, we always make it a point to have a little something. So on top of everything that was on my mind as we made the long trip to Oki, was the thought of not being able to give my big boy a birthday celebration. Luckily, TZ's boss and sponsor came to the rescue and took us to a soba house to at least have a birthday dinner. Yes Lukie ran around the whole time (seriously though, how do the locals keep their rambunctious babies from running around and crawling on tables when seated at a kotatsu, the traditional, low to the ground tables in which you sit on the floor?!), but I was just happy my baby had a birthday cake to blow candles off of. Oh and the food was amaaaaaaazing of course. Plus, it was our fist time venturing off base so that was a nice break too because the only thing available on base are American restaurants, which ummm no thank you, I'm here for the local food!

After the birthday celebration we came back to the room and all crashed. It was 8pm. lol...we're still fighting off jet lag and working to get on a schedule since we've been waking up anywhere from 3am-5am, but we're getting there. Which brings me to the fact that TZ and I are now considered "professional drivers" on the island of Okinawa aka we got our driver's licenses! Woooohooo! The test wasn't all too difficult considering we failed to study ahead of time and crammed right before (thanks to the awesome ladies I met on Facebook who hooked me up with a study guide!).
Can't believe we've been here 4 days now...so far so good. Oh yea, I bought these yummy little cookies and was pleasantly surprised to find they taste A LOT like hojarascas, the yummy little Mexican cookies with cinnamon and sugar...score! :)
