By now you know that TZ and I love curry. It's just something that not only tastes damn good with everything (yes even French fries, thanks to my genius son Cali for discovery), but it's just so versatile. I would say TZ's top two Japanese foods are curry sauce (with chicken, fish, air...everything) and freshly made udon noodles. So of course this guy's gonna love curry udon-which is pretty much udon noodles mixed with curry sauce, simple enough huh?
When I went searching for curry udon recipes, I stumbled across this awesome website www.japanesecooking101.com.
At first I seriously thought, given its generic website name, that it was going to be this cheesy website with horribly outlined recipes. But no, I was completely wrong...this website is awesome with amazing recipes, you should def check it out.
I followed their Curry Udon recipe (http://www.japanesecooking101.com/curry-udon-recipe/) to the T (tee? meh) and it was perfect. I loved that it called for making the dashi ( fish broth) from scratch as opposed to using a powdered kind; plus this process was really simple and it's actually used as the base ingredient in many other Japanese faves like miso soup.

After making the broth, I combined it with the left over curry I made the other night and we devoured it. No really, it was THAT good. I got the three guy's approval and Cali even wanted to pack some for lunch today. Oh and did I mention that I made some tempura too? Um, well yea, that just made the curry even better.
